Pitch, rhythm, and tone—
together they have charms to
soothe a savage breast
Are we feeling cultured today? This haiku refers to a word that starts with M that’s something cultured people pay attention to. It also refers to the famous first line of a play by William Congreve – and yes, I quoted it correctly!
Today’s entry in the A to Z Blogging Challenge.
Music and I actually have read The Mourning Bride. Back in college of course, and I don’t remember much of it. I am still much enjoying these.

Good for you! I confess that the first famous line is the only part of it I ever read. I’m glad you’re still having fun.

I had Music as well, but I didn’t think it was right because of “they” in the second line, music being singular. But now I get it. They refers to pitch, rhythm and tone.
I’m gonna miss these when April ends, Celia. Don’t know what you’re going to be able to do to keep the fun going!

I’m worried about that as well! I don’t want to disappoint anyone. Maybe a Haiku Puzzle of the Week with some kind of clue. We’ll see!

That sounds like fun. And you’re right, you’d probably need a clue. Right now, the letter for the day is a HUGE clue for all of these … and I still get stuck on some of them. But great fun, even when I’m stuck.

I’ll have to figure out a way to do this. I love writing them and want to keep going!

If you did one a week, you’d have to figure out something that comes in 52s. Hmm. Oh, one idea: One haiku for each state – and you give yourself two weeks’ vacation!
