E Haiku #atozchallenge

Some guard Rivendell
some bake cookies inside trees
others help Santa

Today we feature the letter E in the  A to Z Blogging Challenge, and another haiku puzzle. What is the science fiction/fantasy word implied by today’s haiku that starts with E? I’ve always found it odd that we use the same word to refer to such very different creatures: the tall and mysterious lords of Rivendell and Lothlorien, the chubby cartoon characters cranking out cookies in commercials, and the people in red-and-green felt wrangling lines of kids in December malls. Know the word I’m thinking of? Tell us in the comments!

  1. There are also those that serve wizarding families! Which, I’ll be honest, I’d probably call a goblin if I happened to run into one on the street…

Now that I think about it, if it weren’t for the LotR films, I have a feeling that Americans in general would only think of elves as small humanoids…

    • At least you got there, Frain. Otherwise I’d have to start rooting for your antagonists over on your murder-a-day blog. (Kidding! The stories are fun, but I’m on your side. Totally. We’ll, mostly anyway.)
