He snaps his fingers,
And with limitless power
Plays games with starships
Here’s today’s haiku puzzle for the A to Z Blogging Challenge. As usual, figure out the word suggested by the haiku that starts with Q. It’s a difficult one, I’m afraid, but Q is often difficult. If you’re a fan of the SF universe we’re in today you should know the name of this character. Well, not really a name; its the designation of all the beings of this kind, but it’s the name we use for him. And it’s not really a word, either. Sort of a minimal word. Anyway, if you do manage to figure it out, good for you! Let us know in the comments.
Q simply Q

Yes, Q. One of the recurring, and most annoying, opponents in Star Trek. Not always a bad guy, but often one you want to strangle!

this was rather easy, Q for Q but Q is not really his name as they are other Q’s, why didn’t he have a name?
have a lovely day.

Yes, the lack of a name for Q and all the other Qs (we meet a few of them over the course of the various series), did get annoying. They were individuals, why didn’t they have names? Only one of the annoying things about Q!

I liked the Q and Picard interactions on TNG. WeekendsInMaine

My favorite moment is when Q says, “You’re the closest thing I have to a friend, Jean-Luc.” Picard’s appalled look is priceless!

I was sure it was going to be Q from the James Bond films!

A very worthy individual, perhaps, but a mere mortal nonetheless. (Says the Star Trek Q.)

Q is not surprised to be thought perfect. Not at all. Thanks!

I am slinking away. I’m assuming most of the people who don’t know the answer just don’t comment and admit it. Because otherwise, I’d have to assume I’m the only one who doesn’t know so many of these!

I think I’ve aimed at a specific cultural subgroup — the geeks! It’s a small community. We tend to band together and swap movie references. Not everyone can qualify. Sorry, Frain!

Haha! I’m probably a card-carrying nerd, except we don’t have cards.

Oh yes we do – Magic the Gathering, anyone? But that’s actually more nerdy than I am. I do have the cards but can’t claim to play the game.

Then you’re missing out! In all honesty, MTG is quite an achievement in human creativity!

I enjoyed the game when I played it – it’s certainly a different kind of card game than the usual, and does require very creative thinking, both before play (building one’s deck) and during. I just don’t have anyone to play with these days.
