~ Shot into the air ~
~ but where will it fall to earth? ~
~ The poet knows not ~
Welcome to my first post in the A to Z Blogging Challenge for 2018! I’m offering a haiku puzzle for each letter of the alphabet in April. A haiku is a tiny poem based on a Japanese model, with three unrhymed lines of 5, 7, 5 syllables. Traditionally a haiku expresses a fleeting image or feeling, often focusing on nature or seasons, but mine expresses a single word. Can you figure out today’s puzzle? What word starts with A that is suggested by the haiku? Tell us your guess in the comments, and thanks for playing!
got no brain today, but my guess is airplane? I don’t think I like that thought.
have a lovely day.

This is a fun theme to the challenge. I did not know this word but I’m looking forward to future days and challenges.

Today’s word was from a little poem called “The Arrow and the Song” by Longfellow I thought everyone knew: “I shot an arrow into the air / It fell to earth, I knew not where.” It was even the inspiration for an episode of “Twilight Zone.”
I guessed wrong about how popular that poem is these days. I promise future posts will be less obscure!

Not too obscure, even if you don’t know the poem as what do you shoot in the air which begins with A? Not a huge number of things! The only other thing might be ‘a’ virus, if you sneezed! 🙂 Liz http://www.poetryroundabout.com

Hmmm – I’ve got a cold right now. Maybe that was lurking in my mind after all? Thanks for visiting.

That’s the answer I was looking for! Well done. Note, though, that you read and responded to LAST year’s haiku puzzle! To read this year’s, go to https://wordwacker.wordpress.com/2019/04/01/a-haiku-atozchallenge-2019/. I hope you enjoy the one for today as much as last year’s!
