My name is Celia Reaves, and I teach Psychology at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. Well, that’s my day job. I’m also a writer. Years ago I wrote a textbook that was used for quite a while in my field (psychological research methods). I also wrote a Star Trek novel set in the original series, but we don’t talk about that. Ahem.
Currently, I’m working my way through a new novel. It’s a contemporary fantasy, set in the area near Rochester along the Lake Ontario shoreline. I’ve done a lot of research and study on what makes a novel work, and I think this one’s going to be good if I ever get to the end of the project. I’m learning every day about what makes a story work, and that’s what I want to share with you.
When I’m not teaching or writing, I’m involved in music (I sing with a local group called Women of Note), I hang around sailboats (my husband is an avid sailor), I play tabletop dice-rolling role-playing games (think Dungeons & Dragons), and I read. A lot. I have a separate blog called Textracks I created just to keep track of what I’ve read since September 2010 (averaging about 50 or 60 a year, not counting the textbooks I read for work). What can I say – I just love books and reading, which has to be related to my love of writing.
Want to connect with me? There’s a link to follow my blog. You can also use the social media links to find me on Facebook and on Twitter (I’m new to the Twitterverse and don’t tweet often, but I’m on there). I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks for visiting.
Hi Celia,
Are you aware I am also a teacher? I teach Medieval Times and Yearbook Design. I have my Masters Degree in Education, but instead of pursing a college job took to blogging instead.
I read the nice comments you wrote after finding me in the Community Pool. Thank you and welcome to my blog.

Thanks for the nomination! I will probably get things posted and out to new nominees early next week (there’s a thing I’m working on now for today’s post). I appreciate your thinking of me, though!

I’m a retired teacher/ administrator and took up blogging just before I retired. I have one fun blog and one writing blog. My newest endeavor on my blog is to try to help book reviewers get more views. I’ve been writing a book called Girls on Fire about three older professional women, one of whom is a psychologist. Do you do any developmental consulting work?

Hi, Marsha. We sound a lot alike! But the only consulting or development work I’ve done is for textbooks.

I’ve done a little consulting for textbooks, mostly recommending. I’ve written and published curriculum through the county office of education, and I have a lot of respect for textbook writers. I’m going to enjoy getting better acquainted. 🙂

I really like the name and sentiment behind your blog. Good luck writing that novel.
