WW Photo Challenge: Ice Invasion

I is for Ice

This past April was a very strange month here in Western NY. After quite a mild winter, we had snow almost every day in April, often enough to accumulate (one day I had to clean my car off twice before driving!). Then we had freezing rain, which is what happens when the falling water is just below the freezing point. The vibrations in the droplets as they fall keep them from freezing, but as soon as they hit something and stop moving they freeze solid. I took this picture of the poor newborn blossoms on our crab apple tree coated in a quarter-inch of ice. Those drips are solid, where the rain almost slipped off before freezing. Today, when we’re under a heat advisory with temps climbing into the 90s (F), I look back at that snowy April almost wistfully.

What’s the weather like where you are? Tell us in the comments.

If you’re interested, you can join in on the photo challenge! Pick any image you created you can label with the letter I. Ice cream, anyone? How about ignition or infirmary? Share your images. Here’s how to participate.

  • Post an image on your own blog or website.* All types of images are welcome. If you have serious equipment and serious skills, that’s awesome! If you snap pics on your phone (like me), that’s also awesome!
  • Post a comment on this page with a link back to your post. If you post a comment that includes a link to your blog, I will add a link to your post below.
  • Check back over the next week to follow the links. That way you can see what other people did with the theme and join in the fun.

Olga Godim created another beautiful custom book cover for this week, and we both chose the theme of ice. Check out her Ice Queen cover here.

*Just so we’re all clear, you post your photos on your own site, which means you aren’t giving control to me or to anyone else. We’re all invited to view the images you post (and comment if your site allows for comments), but nobody has the right to use your images in any way without your permission. Got it? Great!

  1. Humans often want something that is not there. During winters, we miss warmth and sun. During hot summers, we long for the rain. The wildfires this year on the west coast of Canada are considered the worst in history, and there has been no rain to speak of for several months now.
Back to your photo challenge – nice picture, Celia. I also chose the word ‘Ice’ for this week’s challenge. This is another one of my pre-made fantasy book covers: https://olgagodim.wordpress.com/2018/08/31/ww-photo-challenge-ice-queen/
